In a daring operation, operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) stormed the hideout of kidnappers in Makarfi Forest, Kaduna State, killing one and apprehending another.
The kidnappers had abducted the mother of renowned Hausa singer, Dauda Kahutu Rarara, and collected a ransom of N26.5 million.
According to a DSS source in Kano, the operatives acted on intelligence and caught the kidnappers off guard while they were dividing the ransom.
In the ensuing gun battle, one kidnapper, Hamisu, was killed instantly, while the other, Bature, was arrested and is currently receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.
The source revealed that Bature is cooperating with the operatives, providing valuable information about their kidnapping activities and the identities of their accomplices.
The successful operation is seen as a significant breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping and banditry in the region. The DSS source confirmed that both kidnappers, Hamisu and Bature, are of Fulani ethnicity.
