Constitutional amendment: We are focused on state creation, police – House of Reps

The ongoing constitutional review process in Nigeria is focused on key issues such as state creation, state police, and local government autonomy, according to Philip Agbese, Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives.

In an interview on Arise TV, Agbese praised the leadership of Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who has adopted a citizen-driven approach to the review process.

The committee has engaged various stakeholders and solicited input from Nigerians across the country, fostering a sense of ownership and inclusivity. Critical stakeholders in various sectors have been identified to provide insight and guide the process.

The committee is working aggressively to address areas of concern, including state creation, state police, local government autonomy, and funding for the judiciary.

Agbese assured that the committee is committed to concluding the process before December 2025 and aims to create a flexible constitution that strengthens institutions and promotes nationhood.

The goal is to unite Nigerians and give citizens a sense of belonging, rather than creating further problems for the nation.
