Customs intercepts 26,000 litres of smuggled petrol in Cross River

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a significant seizure of petroleum products in Cross River State. According to Kehinde Ejibunu, Comptroller in-charge of the Federal Operations Unit, Zone 'A' Lagos, the NCS intercepted 26,625 liters of petrol at different locations in the state.

The petrol, which was smuggled in 1,065 kegs, has a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N40,054,125. The seizure was made by a special taskforce, 'Operation Whirl Wind', which has been actively combating smuggling in the region. This latest seizure follows previous successful operations in zones A and B, covering Lagos and Kebbi states.

The comptroller revealed that the interceptions were made on different dates and locations across Agbalagba-Ikom, Akansoko road, Ikom-Ogoja road, and other places within the zone. He noted that the NCS, in collaboration with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), had been monitoring the supply and distribution chain to ensure that the petrol reached its intended destinations.

This seizure is a significant milestone in the fight against smuggling and demonstrates the effectiveness of the NCS's operations in the region. The NCS remains committed to protecting the country's economy and ensuring that illegal activities are brought to justice.
