Israel says it struck Yemen’s Hodeidah in response to Houthi attacks

The Israeli military has launched airstrikes on the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah in Yemen, targeting military installations in response to attacks by the Houthi group. The strikes came a day after a Houthi drone attack on Tel Aviv killed one person.

According to Al Masirah TV, the airstrikes on Saturday hit oil storage facilities and a power plant in Hodeidah, causing a fire and resulting in casualties, including fatalities. However, the Israeli military claimed that it only targeted military installations.

The Houthi group, aligned with Iran, has been targeting shipping lanes in the Red Sea and launching ballistic missiles and drones at Israel, aiming to pressure Israel to end its war on Gaza. Despite Israeli air defenses intercepting most of these attacks, a Houthi drone managed to evade detection and strike a building in Tel Aviv on Friday, prompting Israeli officials to vow a response.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned the Houthis that Israel "will settle the score" with anyone who harms its security. The US and UK have also been conducting airstrikes in Yemen in response to the Houthis' Red Sea attacks, but the campaign has so far failed to stop the group's assaults.
