Police arrest leader of Maphite cult group in Edo




The Edo State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against cultism in the state with the arrest of Eyefia Godbless, the self-confessed leader of the Maphite Confraternity. Godbless, 30, was arrested alongside two other members of the cult group, Imuetiyan Ewemade, 30, and Emeka Okpja, 22, while planning to avenge the killing of one of their members in Benin City.


According to SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the Public Relations Officer of the command, the trio was arrested by the command's crack team while acting on credible intelligence for alleged involvement in cult-related activities in the state. The suspects were sighted at Ubiaza community, off Sapele Road, Benin City, where they were having a clandestine meeting to avenge the killing of their member, Kokori.


Nwabuzor revealed that the suspects alleged that Kokori was killed by a rival secret cult called Aye in June 2024. The suspects made statements and confessed to being members of the Maphite Secret Cult and involvement in all the secret cult fights and killings in the state. They will soon be charged in court.


This arrest is a significant milestone in the fight against cultism in Edo State, and the police command has shown its commitment to tackling the menace head-on.
