Dangote Refinery Threatens to Export Petroleum Products Amidst Local Blockade

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has warned that it will export its petroleum products to other countries if the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other local oil marketers fail to patronize it. This threat was made by Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, during a live broadcast on the Brekete Family Show.

Rollout of Petrol from Dangote Refinery

Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Refinery, announced the rollout of petrol from the 650,000 barrels per day refinery on Tuesday. He stated that the Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) from the refinery would be available in the Nigerian market within 48 hours, depending on the NNPCL.

Exporting Petroleum Products

Edwin revealed that the refinery has been exporting aviation fuel, kerosene, and diesel, and has now started producing PMS. However, due to a "blockade" from local traders and NNPCL, the refinery may be forced to export PMS as well. He emphasized that the refinery is ready to supply as much PMS as possible to the country but will export it if there is no demand locally.

Implications of Exporting Petroleum Products

If Dangote Refinery exports its petroleum products, it may lead to a shortage of fuel in the Nigerian market, exacerbating the existing fuel scarcity issues. This could have far-reaching consequences for the economy and citizens who rely on fuel for transportation and daily activities.
