Paul Onuachu Rejects Return to KRC Genk

KRC Genk's head of football, Dimitri de Conde, has revealed that Paul Onuachu turned down the opportunity to rejoin the club. Onuachu, who is currently frozen out at Southampton, was keen on a permanent transfer to Trabzonspor, but the Turkish club is struggling to meet Southampton's demands.

Previous Conversations

De Conde disclosed that he had multiple conversations with Onuachu, including last year, when the Nigerian forward expressed his affection for Genk, calling it "home." However, Onuachu made it clear that he wanted to continue his career abroad, rather than returning to the Jupiler League.

Genk's Interest

De Conde confirmed that Genk was interested in bringing Onuachu back to the club, but the forward's reluctance meant that a transfer was never discussed. Onuachu spent four successful years at Genk, scoring 85 goals and providing 10 assists in 134 appearances, making him a fan favorite.

Southampton's Demands

Southampton is seeking to recoup the €15 million they paid to sign Onuachu in January 2023, which is proving to be a stumbling block for Trabzonspor. With Onuachu's future uncertain, it remains to be seen where he will end up next.
