Nigeria's Super Eagles Return Home After Harrowing Experience in Libya

The Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, is finally heading back home after a distressing ordeal in Libya. Captain William Troost-Ekong confirmed the team's departure on his X account, saying, "Power of social media. Apparently our plane is being fueled as we speak and we should be leaving to Nigeria shortly. Thanks for everyone's support!"

The team was stranded at the Al Abaq Airport in Libya for over 16 hours after arriving on Sunday for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against the Mediterranean Knights, scheduled for Tuesday. The ill-treatment by Libyan authorities led the Super Eagles players to boycott the game .

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sent a protest letter to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding the incident. This development may force CAF to alter its plans for the 2025 AFCON qualification campaign, which is scheduled to end in November [1).

The Libyan Football Federation has responded to the allegations, claiming they were not involved in the poor treatment of the Super Eagles players. However, Nigerian officials and players have condemned the actions of the Libyan authorities, with Sports Minister John Enoh calling for CAF to take action .
